UC provides excellent administrative resources and education around  pension estimates, election process, plan rules. 

Our specialized retirement planners helps you with the part UC does not do for you:

Your UCRP tier is largely based on your UC hire date, and your tier impacts things like:

  • when you can retire,

  • how your pension benefit is calculated, and

  • what your pension options look like.

If you are within five years of retirement, it is especially important to get serious about planning. This is when UC employees usually start asking big questions like when to retire, how to choose pension options, and how to create steady income without paying more taxes than necessary.

If you are within one year of retirement, do not wait. There are real deadlines, paperwork, and timing decisions that matter. Starting early helps you avoid stress and gives you more control over your retirement transition.

 
 

UCRAYS (Retirement At Your Service) is UC’s retirement portal where you can:

  • view retirement benefit information,

  • run pension estimates,

  • initiate the retirement process,

  • communicate with retirement administrators.

It’s one of the most important tools UC employees use in the retirement transition because it is where we initiate your pension benefits.  It’s also where other supplemental benefits can be accessed. 

UC provides a built-in pension estimator inside UCRAYS. It can generate estimates and display your service credit. The closer you are to retirement, the more accurate it tends to be. 

We help you use that information to build out a comprehensive retirement plan to estimate total income, provide tax estimations, and help you make other important decisions in advance of retirement. 

Important detail: The pension estimate is based on your Highest Average Plan Compensation (HAPC), which is generally the average of your highest 36 continuous months of covered compensation.

Pricing & Contracts

There is no perfect number.

Most UC employees reach out when they want help coordinating the big retirement decisions like UCRP pension elections, Social Security timing, 403(b) and 457 plans, DCP, rollover options, and most importantly, how to turn all of it into reliable income with a smart tax strategy.

That said, UC employees often benefit most from specialized retirement planning when they have multiple accounts to coordinate and at least $500,000 or more in retirement savings and investments. The bigger reason is not the dollar amount. It is the complexity. When you have a pension plus several retirement accounts, tax strategy matters.
